Video claiming to show protests in front of Mumbai’s Gateway of India against the alleged imposition of Marathi in Maharashtra.
The archived version of the post can be seen here. We received this video on our Whatsapp tipline (+91-9999499044), too, requesting us to fact-check it.
Newschecker noticed the overly glossy texture and lack of detail in the video, the misspelling of the word “label” as “lebel” on a banner held by the protesters, all signs pointing towards AI-generation.
We then ran the video past Hive Moderation, an AI-content detection tool, which found it 99.8% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.
We noticed the watermark reading “Paribhraman” on the bottom-right corner of the video, along with a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this Instagram post by digital creator Manab Gogoi, dated April 9, 2025, sharing the same video. “Disclaimer: Entire content in this video is AI-generated,” read the post, further confirming that the viral video is not real.
