A photograph allegedly showing cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, donning a saffron scarf with a Lotus symbol printed on it, has gone viral on social media platforms with users claiming that he has joined the BJP. The background of the alleged photo also shows a banner of the saffron party.
Multiple Facebook users shared the purported photo of the cricketer with PM Modi, and alleged, “MS Dhoni joins BJP.” Newschecker, however, found the photo to be AI generated.

Fact Check/Verification
A keyword search for “MS Dhoni” and “BJP” on Google did not yield any credible reports stating that the cricketer has joined the saffron party. Moreover, we did not find any credible reports suggesting that PM Modi recently met Dhoni.
We then looked up the viral image on Google Lens which did not throw up any news reports featuring the alleged photo of MS Dhoni with PM Modi.
On carefully analysing the viral photo, we noticed that the Prime Minister’s spectacles were not fully formed, and appeared to merge together with his face. Further, we also spotted a part of the Lotus symbol, as seen on the saffron scarf, unusually placed on the PM’s shoulder. The blurry background and soft features of the image also indicated that the media was likely created using AI.

We then checked the viral image on multiple AI detection platforms to further ascertain whether the image is genuine or AI-generated. Website Sightengine found an 83% probability of the photo being a deepfake.
Another AI detection tool Hive Moderation estimated a 96.9% likelihood of the viral image containing AI generated or deepfake content.
We also checked the viral image allegedly showing Dhoni with PM Modi on website ‘AI or Not’, which concluded that the media was likely AI generated.

Conclusion
Hence, the viral photo allegedly claiming that Dhoni joined BJP and was photographed with PM Modi was found to be AI generated.
