Claim
Nurses to be known as nursing officers, BSc nursing equivalent to MBBS and they will be considered as junior doctors, according to the Indian Nursing Council.

Fact
Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “BSc nursing nursing officers MBBS”, which did not throw up any credible news reports of such a decision. We looked up the website of the Indian Nursing Council, where we did not find any relevant statement or circular.
On researching further, we came across this tweet, dated June 7, 2023, by Dhruv Chauhan, national zonal coordinator, Indian Medical Association-Medical Students Network, who said the circular is fake.
We also came across this tweet by the Ministry of Health, dated June 8, 2023, clearly stating that the “Indian Nursing Council” circular, announcing that nurses will be known as nursing officers and that BSc nursing will be considered equivalent to MBBS, is fake.
We also came across this tweet by PIB Fact Check, dated June 8, 2023, confirming that the viral circular is fake.
