Men brutally slaughtered a cow over the BJP flag after the Congress’ win in the assembly elections in Karnataka.

A keyword search for “cow slaughter,” and “BJP flag” on Google led us to a tweet by @uncensoredlive, dated February 2, 2022. Carrying the brutal video of cow slaughter, the post stated that the incident happened in Manipur.

Multiple Twitter users had shared the video in 2022 to show “Muslim youths slaughtering a cow” over the BJP flag in Manipur. Such posts can be seen here, here and here.

In the comment section of one such tweet by @azad_nishant, we found that the Twitter handle of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had shared a screengrab from Imphal Free Press’ report. It stated, “Three arrested for allegedly slaughtering cow over BJP candidates list.”

As per the report, “Three persons allegedly involved in the slaughtering of a cow, which video went viral in social media, were arrested by the Lilong police…” Adding, “In the viral video circulated in social media on Sunday evening, a cow was seen slaughtering by some individuals over a BJP flag laid on the ground, as a mark of protest against the announcement of the BJP tickets for the Manipur Assembly polls.”

@PetaIndia also replied to the tweet stating, “Lilong police have arrested three accused and registered an FIR under sections 153A, 429, 504 of the IPC and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.” 

A report by The Hindu, dated February 1, 2022, stated that the three persons arrested in Lilong were “further charged with hurling abuses against Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren and State BJP president A. Sharda. The arrested persons have been identified as Nazbul Hussain, 38, Abdul Rashid, 28 and Arib Khan, 32, all of Lilong in Thoubal district.”

Hence, over an-year-old video from Manipur is being falsely shared to show men slaughtering a cow over the BJP flag in Karnataka after the Congress’ win the assembly polls.
