Claim
On stage interaction of Saurabh Bharadwaj with Siri leaves AAP exposed.

Fact
Video found to be manipulated.

Ahead of the Delhi Polls, a video purportedly showing AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj’s on-stage interaction with Apple’s digital voice assistant ‘Siri’ going awry, and “exposing” the party for failing its promise to clean the Yamuna river, is being widely shared on social media platforms.

In the video, Bharadwaj is purportedly heard saying, “…You might know that phones have ‘Siri,’  which uses Chat GPT to tell the truth…I asked Siri, ‘What is the matter?’ Just listen to what Siri says.”

The AAP leader then plays an audio, where he is purportedly heard asking Siri, “Hey Siri! Who used the word ‘Yamuna 5 saal me saaf kar dengey?’ Please use Chat GPT while you answer.”  Responding to the same, Siri allegedly says, “The term ‘5 saal me Yamuna saaf kar dengey‘ was used by Kejriwal in 2015.”  The alleged conversation is followed by a graphic showing Bharadwaj in tears.

Multiple X and Facebook users shared the 38-second-long video alleging “Siri exposed AAP Da!”

Fact Check/Verification

A Google search for “Saurabh Bharadwaj” and “Siri” did not yield any credible reports indicating that the MLA’s interaction with a digital voice assistant on the Yamuna River backfired, and “exposed” the party as widely claimed.

We were, however, directed to an X post by the AAP leader, dated January 27, 2025, showing him in the same attire, and identical backdrop as in the viral clip.

In the video, Bharadwaj plays an audio recording, where he purportedly asks Siri, “Who used the word ‘guarantee’ in Indian politics for the first time? Please use Chat GPT while you answer.”

Responding to the same, Siri purportedly says, “The term ‘guarantee’ was first prominently used in Indian politics by Tam (Aam) Aadmi Party AP during the 2020 Delhi assembly elections. Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai noted that AP’s use of ‘guarantee’ was a pioneering move, which was later adopted by the other parties in subsequent elections.”

He then replays the same audio amid applause from the audience.

Bharadwaj further says, “Siri, which tells the truth, is saying in English that the word ‘guarantee’ was first used in Indian politics by the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2020 elections, and following which multiple political parties stole it from us…”

Subsequent investigation led us to a video showing the AAP manifesto launch for the 2025 Delhi Polls, live-streamed on the party’s official YouTube channel on January 27, 2025.

Around 1 minute into the video, Bharadwaj is heard saying, “…when the Aam Aadmi Party launches its manifesto, we don’t call it a ‘manifesto’…we call it ‘Kejriwal’s guarantee.’ Arvind Kejriwal was the first to use the word ‘guarantee’, and multiple leaders used this word after him.”

“…on my way here, I asked Siri ‘What is the matter?’  You might be aware that the phone has a feature called ‘Siri,’ which uses Chat GPT to tell the truth. I asked Siri,’ What’s the matter?’. Listen to what ‘Siri’ said.”

He then plays the afore-described audio of his purported interaction with Siri on using the word ‘guarantee’ in Indian politics.

We skimmed through the entire video, but did not find any mention of ‘Yamuna River.’ On comparing the keyframes of the viral clip with those seen in the YouTube livestream, we could conclude that a segment of audio heard in the widely circulated footage of Bharadwaj was manipulated.

Multiple news outlets such as this, this and this, also reported on the ‘Saurabh-Siri’ interaction on using word ‘guarantee’ in Indian politics during the AAP’s manifesto release.

Further, we also noticed the watermark of ‘Sarcasm Politics’ on the bottom right corner of the viral clip and found that the same was shared on the Instagram handle of the same user on January 27, 2024.

The X handle of user ‘@Sarcasm_politic’ also shared a similar manipulated video of Siri mocking Arvind Kejriwal on alleged extravagant spending as the Delhi CM.

The Delhi unit of the BJP also shared another edited video of the interaction between Saurabh Bharadwaj and the Apple’s digital assistant to mock Kejriwal on Yamuna pollution.

Conclusion

Hence, the viral video purportedly showing the AAP leader’s interaction with Siri allegedly ‘exposing’ the party was found to be manipulated.
