Afghan militant group warns ISI, vows to avenge Pahalgam terror attack.
2022 video of the front declaring their fight against Taliban manipulated to make false claim.
A video allegedly showing the members of the ‘Liberation Front of Afghanistan’ vowing to avenge the terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam, that killed 26 people, as “vengeance has no borders” has gone viral on social media platforms. In the viral footage, the Afghan group purportedly threatens to “dismantle the ISI’s terror syndicate, cell by cell, soul by soul.”
The one-minute-fifty-second-long-video is being widely circulated on X and Facebook with the caption, “The Liberation Front of Afghanistan warns:— “Pahalgam has not yet been AVENGED. Every ISI-backed resistance fighter in Pakistan or elsewhere will be HUNTED DOWN and ELIMINATED.”
Newschecker, however, found the claim to be untrue.
Such posts can be seen here, here and here.
A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to a Facebook post by Liberation Front AFG, dated February 4, 2022. It featured the same video, confirming that it predates the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025.
Notably, the audio is different from the one featured in the viral clip. We then transcribed the Persian audio heard in the 2022 footage with the help of online tools, and found that it calls out and challenges the Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
In another post on its Facebook page from February 2022, the front identified itself as a “group whose majority is made up of young people… Our fight is against tyranny, corruption, totalitarianism, and the unjust and one-sided policies that rule Afghanistan.” It detailed that the group’s goal “is to provide a humane environment and a future where the people of this land, as the original owners of this land, can participate in determining their own destiny and live in peace and harmony with themselves, their neighbors, and other peoples of the world…”
“We are witnesses to their disrespect, torture, and brutal killing by the savage Taliban, and we will fight to protect and restore the dignity of these comrades,” it added.
The page has been inactive since April 2022.
Carrying a screengrab from the viral clip, a report by Afghanistan International, dated February 4, 2022, stated, “An anti-Taliban military front called the Afghan Freedom Front announced its presence. In a video, the front said that the Taliban’s actions in arresting journalists, free women and protesters, and the situation of women were among the reasons for their uprising (translated from Persian via Google). ”

Another outlet Shafaqna Afghanistan carried the video message by the group, and corroborated, “Another anti-Taliban military front called the “Afghanistan Liberation Front” has announced its existence…this front said in a video that women in this land do not enjoy any Islamic or human rights. They talk about standing up to the Taliban (translated from Persian via Google).”
A report by Al-Ain News, dated February 5, 2022, also stated that in a video clip the Liberation Front of Afghanistan said, “the Taliban’s actions in arresting journalists, suppressing women, and marginalizing them were among the reasons for its uprising.” It added, “press reports said that the Afghan Freedom (Liberation) Front has begun military operations in northern and central Afghanistan (translated from Arabic via Google).”
We checked the audio heard in the viral clip on multiple AI detection tools which did not yield any definitive results.
Further, we did not find any credible reports stating that the Liberation Front of Afghanistan has vowed to avenge the Pahalgam attack.

Hence, we find that an unrelated audio has been overlaid in an old video of Liberation Front of Afghanistan to falsely claim that the Afghan group vowed to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.
