A purported NDTV news card, allegedly quoting Home Minister Amit Shah, is circulating widely on social media. It claims that Shah said, “All the activists on social media, no matter which party they belong to, are surviving on our 5kg of ration!”
The image is being shared extensively ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, with users criticising the remark.

Evidence
A keyword search using terms like “Amit Shah,” “social media,” and “5kg ration” yielded no credible reports or official statements. His verified social media accounts also did not feature any such remarks.
Additionally, the viral graphic bore the watermark of NDTV India’s show “Powerplay.” However, when we reviewed the full Powerplay interview with Amit Shah published on NDTV’s YouTube channel (Nov 1, 2025), there was no such comment.
On examining the viral graphic closely, several discrepancies stood out:
- Unprofessional punctuation: There is irregular use of exclamation and quotation marks.
- Font inconsistency: The typeface differs from NDTV’s standard newscards.
- Design mismatch: The white background behind the text looks superimposed and inconsistent with the actual NDTV graphics (seen here, here and here) on Amit Shah’s interview.

The graphics shared by NDTV on Amit Shah’s interview can be seen below.

NDTV also issued a clarification stating:
“This post circulating on social media is an attempt to spread fake news by photoshopping a screenshot of our post from a recent event. We have flagged this, and appropriate legal action will be taken.”

Verdict
The viral NDTV-style image quoting Amit Shah is fake. He did not make any such comment about “online activists surviving on our 5kg ration.” NDTV has confirmed that the viral post is a photoshopped fabrication.
