A keyword search for “Deepika Padukone” and “Spirit” on Google did not yield recent reports carrying any such statement by the actress on the recent controversy.
We then looked up the keyframes of the viral clip on Google Lens led us to a video report by NDTV, dated January 18, 2019. It featured a shorter version of the same video, and stated, “At a recent event, while talking about pay parity in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone recalled the time she had to turn down a film because the filmmaker said he couldn’t afford to pay her much since he had to accommodate the male actor.”
A Times of India report, dated January 17, 2019, also carried the viral video of Deepika Padukone, further confirming that the footage is not linked to the recent controversy over the Prabhas-starrer.
Another report by Hindustan Times from January 2019 also carried the actor’s now viral remarks on gender pay-gap in Bollywood, stating that she said the same while “addressing the media at the cover launch of the book titled The Dot That Went for a Walk.”
Hence, we find that the viral video showing Deepika Padukone commenting on the gender pay disparity in Bollywood is old, and unrelated to the recent controversy over Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit.
