Claim: A viral video of BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav where he is saying Modi and Yogi did not produce children so that unemployment does not increase in the country, is fake.
Fact: The viral clip of Dinesh Lal Yadav is real.
A 58-second clip of Dinesh Lal Yadav, BJP MP and the candidate from Azamgarh is making rounds on social media. In that video, he can be heard saying in Hindi, “Modiji, Yogiji stopped unemployment. Do they have any children? Tell me, do they have any children? So who is increasing unemployment? The government is telling them to stop, but they are not obeying it. There is a certain amount of income in this country. But still, unemployment is rising because of the population. The government is trying to stop it”
Srinivas BV, National President of Youth Congress posted the clip on his X handle and wrote in Hindi, “Modi Ji-Yogi Ji did not produce even a single child so that unemployment does not increase in the country ‘: BJP MP Nirahua”. An archive version of that post can be seen here.
After that BJP’s National IT Department head Amit Malviya and BJP leader Tajinder Bagga took their X handles and claimed that the viral clip was Fake. Archive versions of those posts can be seen here and here.
Even Dinesh Lal Yadav himself denied it and claimed it as fake.
Fact Check/ Verification
Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), of The Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA) of which Newschecker is a part ran the viral video through several deep fake detection tools and found that all of them concluded that the video was not AI-generated.
Then we checked and found the full interview of Dinesh Lal Yadav, uploaded on the YouTube channel named ‘Soul Up Hindi’ on April 13, 2024. The video was titled in Hindi, “MP Nirahua got angry on the question of unemployment and said, don’t give birth to children like Yogi Modi ji”.
At the 10 minutes 53 seconds mark of that video Dinesh Lal Yadav can be heard saying, “There is a certain amount of income in this country. But still, unemployment is rising because of the population. The government is trying to stop it”. And at the 11-minute 27 seconds mark of that same video again he can be heard saying, “Modiji, Yogiji stopped unemployment. Do they have any children? Tell me, do they have any children? So who is increasing unemployment? The government is telling them to stop, but they are not obeying it”.
So it is clear that the viral clip is a combination of two segments from the original video. However, it’s essential to note that this editing did not alter the intended meaning of Yadav’s words.
Then Newschecker reached out to the journalist Santosh Kushwaha who reported the video. He confirmed to us that the viral clip was not fake. He added that the video was recorded at Sathiyaon, Azamgarh.
He also sent us the original video and we checked the metadata and found the video was recorded on April 13, 2024.
Conclusion
Thus it is safe to conclude that the viral clip of Dinesh Lal Yadav is not Fake.
