Claim

An Indian Express report stated that singer Neha Kakkar is under house arrest after revealing her massive earnings from an investment platform during an interview on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.

The ad can be seen here. We received this claim on our Whatsapp tipline (+919999499044), too, requesting us to fact-check it.

Fact

Newschecker noticed that the URL of the news report is “https://live.indianews12.top/”, which is different from the official Indian Express website. The official URL is https://indianexpress.com, confirming that the supposed Kakkar interview is from a dubious website.

We then did a keyword search for the terms “Kakkar house arrest”, “Kakkar investment platform,” and found that there were no news reports, neither from Indian Express nor from any other news website on such an announcement from the singer.

Upon clicking the word “GPT 500 Alora”, the purported investment platform mentioned across the article, we were taken to a suspicious web page asking for personal details,  endorsements from users and celebrities, vague descriptions of funding and requests to register quickly, all signs pointing towards a scam.

We then ran the website past Scam Detector, which gave it a trust score of 16.9/100, deeming it “Controversial. High-Risk. Unsafe”. “The algorithm flagged its seemingly suspicious success, even with a newly registered domain. It also detected high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors noted in the Controversial. High-Risk. Unsafe. tags above. Long story short, we recommend staying away from this website,” read the detector’s report.

We also went through the entire interview of Kakkar on The Kapil Sharma Show, uploaded on the official YouTube channel of SET India on January 25, 2024, where we did not find any such conversation around an investment platform.

Newschecker had already debunked a similar viral report on Shreya Ghoshal endorsing an investment platform, which was also found to be fabricated.
