Fact

A Google lens search on the keyframes of the viral video led us to an X post by @Spoof_Junkey, dated February 15, 2022. Carrying the viral video, the post stated, “Attempt of bogus voting by Burqa clad women in Rampur yest, beaten and arrested by Uttam Police from Uttar Pradesh. #HijabRow” (sic)

We also found a Facebook post by @mohan.murthy.142, dated February 15, 2022, carrying the viral footage. This led us to conclude that the video is at least 2-year-old, and is not linked to the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

In February 2022, multiple news outlets had reported that two burqa-clad women were caught in a fake voting case in Rampur during polling for the UP Assembly Elections. Such reports can be seen here, here and here.

Reportedly, the incident took place in the GRP college. We looked up the official website of the college, and found an image showing the main gate of the campus. Notably, the main gate of the college had several similarities to a structure seen in the viral video.

It is likely that the video shows the same incident which was reported in February, 2022. However, we were not independently able to verify the same.

We could thus conclude that an old video has been misleadingly shared to show police arresting  two Burqa-clad women for fake voting during the polling for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
