Indian business tycoon Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani along with six others, have been indicted in the US for their alleged involvement in an over $250 million scheme to bribe Indian government officials for securing contracts that affected the American investors too.

“During the alleged scheme, Adani Green raised more than $175 million from U.S. investors and Azure Power’s stock was traded on the New York Stock Exchange,” stated a press statement by US Securities and Exchange Commission. Notably, Cyril Cabanes, an executive of Azure Power Global Ltd is also an accused in the case.

Arrest warrants have been reportedly issued in the states for Adani and his nephew Sagar. The prosecutors also plan to hand those warrants to foreign law enforcement.

Soon after this news broke, an alleged photograph showing Adani with US Police officers went viral on social media platforms. X user @Hudhayfa_jalil shared the image claiming, “Adani arrested.” Multiple other users, such as this, this and this, shared the same photo while detailing the arrest warrant against the industrialist.
