Dhoni dismissed the claims about his retirement, clarified that he is “still playing the IPL.”

Several social media users claimed the former Indian cricket captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player, MS Dhoni has announced his retirement from the ongoing season of Indian Premier League, and will serve as the mentor for the remaining tournament. Newschecker, however, found the claims to be false.

Fact Check/Verification

We noticed that claims about Dhoni’s retirement have been on social media from at least April 3, 2025. However, Dhoni played the match between CSK and DC on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

A keyword search for “MS Dhoni”, “retirement” and “IPL” on Google did not yield any credible reports stating that the CSK player has announced his retirement from the tournament.

We, however, found multiple reports, such as this, this and this, stating that the cricketer has clarified that he is still playing the IPL.

 “No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I will play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that,” Dhoni said in a podcast with YouTuber Raj Shamani.

Hence, the viral posts alleging that MS Dhoni has announced his retirement from IPL were found to be false.
