Israel-Iran Conflict: Old Video From Russia Shared As Massive Explosion In Tel Aviv

We looked up the keyframes of the viral clip on Google Lens which led us to an X post by Julian Röpcke, dated January 24, 2025. Carrying the same video, it stated, “Ukraine bombed #Ryazan and #Bryansk with long-range kamikaze drones last night…”

Carrying the same video, a report by Al Jazeera English, dated January 24, 2025, stated, “People were filmed fleeing a fire at a Russian oil refinery in Ryazan, about 200 kilometres southeast of Moscow, after a Ukrainian drone attack. The facility accounted for almost 5% of the country’s oil refining output last year.” 

Another news outlet The Guardian also shared the same video in January 2025 corroborating that it was from a Russian refinery. 

A BBC report featured a screengrab from the viral clip, stating, “On the night of January 24, Ukrainian drones attacked several Russian regions. The Russian Defense Ministry reported 121 drones shot down, including over Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as over annexed Crimea. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a successful attack on factories in Bryansk and Ryazan (translated from Russia via Google).”

Hence, we find that an old video from Russia has been falsely shared to show a massive explosion in Tel Aviv amid recent conflict between Israel and Iran.
