Imran Khan arrested over corruption charges

The dramatic arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan in a corruption case on Tuesday triggered clashes with police and paramilitary forces across the country, killing nearly a dozen people. The former PM reportedly appeared at court for a bail hearing on Friday, after the Supreme Court ruled his arrest this week as unlawful. Khan was ordered to remain in the bench’s custody under police protection for his own safety until Friday’s court appearance.

Fact check

Newschecker noticed that the letter had several grammatical errors, along with the odd note, which states that US ambassador Donald Blome, described as the only authority Khan could trust, will “supervise the terms and conditions”, raising our doubts

A relevant keyword search led us to this tweet by Geo Fact Check, dated May 10, 2023, stating the viral letter is fake.

According to the second tweet in the thread, an official confirmed that no such agreement was signed between Khan and the US ambassador.

The tweet also pointed out that Yousuf Naseem Khokhar, the interior secretary, had retired on March 7, even though the letter is dated May 8.  News reports on Khokhar’s retirement in March can be seen here and here, confirming that the viral agreement was fabricated.
