The photograph was shared with the caption, “Wish fellow parliamentarians and others in politics also received such courtesy and bonhomie — from their permanently-scowling PM. In a mature democracy, we would know the two-way relationship, favours, transactions. Some day, history will tell us.”

Bharati later deleted his tweet with the photograph in context. The archived version can be viewed here.

Fact Check / Verification

A Google reverse image search led us to a 2020 tweet by a user who shared a photograph of PM Modi claiming that he was bowing to Priti Adani, chairperson of the Adani Foundation. The tweet’s caption translated from Hindi to English reads, “The Sanghi watchman saluting Preeti Adani by bowing.”

On further search, we found the image of Modi bowing published by OneIndia. According to this report, the woman in the photograph is Deepika Mondal, Chief Functional Officer of the NGO, Divya Jyoti Cultural Organization and Welfare Society.
