The video is old and unrelated to Zubeen Garg’s death. It was filmed months earlier in Egypt and has been available online since May 2025.

Iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg tragically passed away during a scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 19, 2025, at the age of 52, leaving his fans in deep shock and grief. 

Soon after, a video began circulating on social media claiming to capture the singer’s final moments underwater. However, a detailed verification shows the clip predates his death and has no connection to the incident.

Earlier Social Media Posts

  • Keyframes from the viral clip traced back to a YouTube upload dated July 19, 2025, confirming it was online two months before Zubeen Garg’s death. Also, the original video clearly shows that the diver survived the incident.
  • A Facebook post by LADbible from June 2025 carried the same video and credited it to an account named Marat (@stop.the.sun) on Instagram.
  • The Instagram account posted the clip on May 14, 2025 with a caption, “Lost consciousness for the first time. Ascent from 78 meters… Low speed of descent and the desire to squeeze 2 meters to reach 78 meters played a cruel joke on me…”

The profile also featured other such diving videos.

Location Verification

We also geo-located the spot in the viral clip to Dahab, a coastal town in Egypt on the shores of the Red Sea, which is a popular destination for diving enthusiasts.
