Old video from Hardoi shared in false context.
A video of a woman crying has gone viral on social media platforms with users claiming that her necklace worth ₹1.5 Lakh was stolen at the Mahakumbh mela in Prayagraj. In the 15 second video the woman is heard saying,”…someone pushed me and took it.”
Multiple X and Facebook users shared the video of the alleged theft incident linking it to the ongoing Mahakumbh. Newschecker, however, found the claim to be untrue.

We found a report by Dainik Bhaskar from December 2024 carrying the same video of a woman alleging a jewellery theft, stating that the incident happened at the ‘Mukhyamantri Vivah Yojana’ programme in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi. The woman seen in the video was identified as one Lakshmi Srivastava, who was attending her brother-in-law’s wedding during the Samuhik Vivah (Mass wedding) event.

The video was also on the official YouTube channel of Live Hindustan on December 16, 2024, titled ‘Hardoi Samuhik Vivah loot: Panic due to robbery in CM marriage scheme amidst heavy police force. (translated to English via Google).’ The incident was reported by News18 as well.
A case was also filed in the matter. However, it was later clarified that the woman found the necklace at her residence itself. The incident was reported by multiple outlets such as this, this and this.

Hence, an old video from Hardoi has been shared to falsely allege a jewellery theft at Mahakumbh.
