Old Video Of Shivpal Singh Yadav Calling SP ‘Party Of Thieves’ Revived Amid Lok Sabha Polls

Video dates back to 2019, when Yadav was not a part of the SP.

Amid the Lok Sabha Elections, a video of Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav criticising the Akhilesh Yadav-led outfit, and calling it a “party of thieves” has grabbed social media attention. The Samajwadi Party is a partner in the I.N.D.I bloc. In the video Yadav is heard saying, “…Samajwadi Party has completely lost its track. It has become a party of thieves, mafias…how can such people run the party? Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) had worked so hard for the party, these people have completely destroyed it.” Newschecker found that the video dates back to 2019, when Yadav was not a part of the SP, and has been shared out of context.

Fact Check/Verification

A keyword search for “शिवपाल यादव,” “चोर की पार्टी” and “सपा” on Google led us to a report by Jansatta, dated August 14, 2021. The report stated that after disassociating with the Samajwadi Party, an enraged Shivpal Singh Yadav had termed the SP as a ”party of thieves.”

We then looked up for Hindi keywords “शिवपाल यादव,” “समाजवादी पार्टी,” and “चोर की पार्टी” on YouTube which yielded a video report by Republic Bharat, dated April 27, 2019. Around 1:15 minutes into the video report, we spotted the viral clip of Yadav criticising the Samajwadi Party, and calling it a “party of thieves.”

 A report by Dainik Jagran, dated April 27, 2019, also carried the viral footage of Shivpal Singh Yadav, stating that Yadav who has parted his way from the Samajwadi Party was seen speaking against the party amid elections. He has completely disassociated himself from the SP, and has formed his own political party.

Notably, Shivpal Singh Yadav had left the Samajwadi Party, and floated the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) in 2018 following a rift with Akhilesh Yadav. However, his party  merged with the Samajwadi Party in December 2022, and he re-joined the Akhilesh Yadav-led party.

Conclusion

We could thus conclude that Shivpal Singh Yadav’s comments on Samajwadi Party when he was not a member of the Akhilesh Yadav-led outfit has been shared out of context.
