Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the same video shared on X on February 17, 2025, well before the recent escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
“There was a stampede at the Florida Mall in Orlando, USA, on Sunday afternoon (February 16). There was an accidental discharge of a firearm in which a man in his 20s shot himself while adjusting the weapon. Police reported that there is no major threat and that the only person injured is the shooter himself. He was taken to the hospital with injuries but without risk of losing his life,” read the Portuguese post. We came across the same two-minute four-second video uploaded on Threads, too, on February 22, 2025
A relevant keyword search led us to multiple news reports on the incident, seen here, here and here, stating that a man in his 20s accidentally shot himself while adjusting his gun at the Florida Mall, causing panic among visitors at the mall. We also came across this X post by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, dated February 17, 2025, confirming the incident.
A comparison of screengrabs from the viral video (left) with photos of Orlando’s Florida Mall on Google Maps (right) further confirms that it is the same location.
