Viral Video Of A Boy Beaten In UP For Raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Slogans Is From 2021

A video of a young man being beaten up mercilessly by two policemen, even a he is heard pleading for mercy, is going viral on social media, along with the claim that the boy was beaten up for raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans in Uttar Pradesh. A Newschecker analysis has found this claim to be false.

The video has been shared on Twitter by twitter user @mBhanda47667959 which has garnered 1,530 views and 184 likes and 62 retweets along with the caption ‘Baba ji’s police teaching a lesson after the slogan of ‘Pakistan Zinda Baad Baad.’

Newschecker found similar claims on Twitter with different captions.

Fact Check/ Verification

Newschecker conducted a Google reverse image search on the key-frames of the viral video to ascertain its authenticity and found an article by KTV News website which contained the longer version of the video.

According to the report, the video is from Chandauli in UP, where three minor children were badly beaten up by two policemen on charges of theft. Both the policemen were suspended after its video went viral.

Upon further investigation, Newschecker found news reports by The Times of India and Amar Ujala regarding this video. According to the reports, the incident is from Balua police station of Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, some minor youths were allegedly trying to steal a mobile phone but were caught.

Newschecker also found a tweet clarifying the situation, after the video went viral. The tweet said ‘The case is more than a year old in which departmental action has been taken by suspending both the policemen at the time due to the inhuman treatment done to the child. Please refrain from circulating anything without full facts and clear information.’

Conclusion

According to the investigation conducted by Newschecker, a 2021 video of a young boy being beaten up for allegations of stealing, is being passed off as the boy getting beaten for raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans.
