Fact
A Google reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video threw up a report by autoevolution, dated August 17, 2021, titled ‘Ilyushin Military Plane Crashes in Russia, the Tragic Moment Was Captured on Camera.’
Displaying screengrabs from the viral video, the report stated, “The Ilyushin Il-112V prototype military transporter crashed in a forest close to the Kubinka airfield in Russia. Developed by the Russian aerospace company United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), the plane was meant to replace the Antonov An-26 aircraft.”
Following this, we conducted a keyword search for “ilyushin il-112v,” “crash” & “ Russia” on YouTube which led us to a video uploaded on the official channel of CNN-News 18 on August 17, 2021.
It carried snippets from the viral video showing a plane crash, and stated, “A military plane crashed in Moscow earlier this morning. Three people were on board. Russian media agency says that the three people are dead.”
Multiple news outlets had reported this incident. Such reports can be seen here, here and here.
Hence, the viral post claiming to show footage of the recent plane crash in Nepal is false. The video dates back to 2021, and shows an incident from Russia.
