Fact Check/ Verification

To investigate if it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi playing cricket, we conducted a keyword search of the words ‘PM Modi Batting’ and found a Youtbe video uploaded by user DeshGujaratHD on 6th January, 2013 of PM Narendra Modi batting at the newly inaugurated stadium in Rajkot in 2013. We noticed that the Prime Minister was batting left-handed.

PM Narendra Modi’s official Facebook page had shared another image of him batting left-handed on 6th January, 2013.

Newschecker also found a Youtube video of PM Narendra Modi giving a speech in Gujarati at the inauguration of the Rajkot stadium titled ‘Narendra Modi speaking at inaugural function of a new Cricket stadium in Rajkot, Gujarat’ uploaded on 6th January, 2013.

Further, Newschecker conducted a reverse image search on the keyframes of the video to ascertain its authenticity and found the same video uploaded on the official Instagram account of Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricket Yuvraj Singh, uploaded on 14th March, 2022.

Conclusion

According to the investigation conducted by Newschecker, the elderly gentleman seen batting in the viral video is Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh and not PM Narendra Modi.
