Following the win, a video allegedly showing Indian cricket coach Gautam Gambhir praising Kohli and confirming that he and Rohit Sharma will be part of India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad is circulating widely on social media.

Evidence

A Google keyword search for “Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, World Cup 2027” did not yield any credible reports attributing the viral statement to the Indian coach.

However, we came across a report by NDTV, dated December 7, 2025, which mentioned that during a  press conference, when Gambhir was asked about India’s ODI World Cup 2027 squad, he said:

“Look, first we have got to realise that ODI World Cup is two years away from now. The important thing is to stay in the present. It’s also important that young boys coming into the setup are grabbing their opportunities…”

The video of Gambhir’s press conference, shared by BCCI on December 6, 2025, in which he appeared in the same outfit and setting as seen in the viral clip, did not contain the statement attributed to him in the circulating video.

A closer review of the viral clip revealed visual inconsistencies:  including extra-smooth skin texture, unnatural lip movement, and a blurred lower jaw area, indicating AI manipulation.

We then analysed the video using AI detection tools:

• Hive Moderation detected a 72.7% likelihood of AI-generated or deepfake content.
• Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector flagged the audio as “Likely Deepfake.”
• Resemble AI also identified the audio as fake.
