Power Failure During International Cricket Match In Pakistan? No, Viral Clip Is From New Zealand

A sudden power outage midway through a Pakistan vs New Zealand ODI cricket match at a stadium in Pakistan.

The archived version of a post, where the user mocks Pakistan by stating, “Sudden Power Cut in Pakistan during Pak Vs NZ match. And these jokers want Kashmir”, can be seen here.

Fact

Newschecker ran a keyword search for “Pakistan New Zealand power outage”, which led us to multiple news reports, sharing the same video, stating that the third ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui (New Zealand) on April 5 faced an extremely strange problem when in the 39th over of the Pakistan batting innings, there was a massive power failure in the stadium, causing all the floodlights to shut off instantly. “WATCH: The lights went out during a delivery on Saturday at Bay Oval Stadium in New Zealand’s Mount Maunganui, adding drama to the match between Pakistan and New Zealand, which the Black Caps won by 43 runs, completing a 3-0 series sweep. A video clip from the broadcast is now going viral on social media, with many people calling it shocking and dangerous for the players,” read a Dawn Today Instagram post, dated April 5, 2025, sharing the video, which further confirms that the viral video is not from a stadium in Pakistan.
