Fact

A Yandex reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video led us to a YouTube video by Liputan6, dated December 25, 2022, titled ‘French Shooting Incident, Kurdish Protesters Clash with Officials in Paris (translated from Indonesian with Google).’

Around 36 seconds into the video, we spotted the viral footage that is being shared as the ongoing protest in France against President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform.

The description of the video read, “ French Shooting Incident, Kurdish Protesters Clash with Officials in Paris…Clashes between protesters and security forces caused by the shooting at the Kurdish Cultural Center occurred again in Paris, France…”

The viral footage was also shared by Journalist Remy Buisine on his official Twitter account on December 24, 2022, stating, “Chaos in the centre of Paris, vehicles overturned and set on fire. Ongoing clashes. (translated from French)”

Three Kurds in France were killed by a gunman, triggering massive protests by the Kurdish community members in Paris in December, 2022. The protest turned violent, and clashes broke out between the police and protesters.

The viral footage of a street filled with upside down vehicles- some even set on fire- shows incidents from the December 2022 Kurdish protests in Paris.

We could thus conclude that an old video of protests in Paris against the killing of Kurds has been falsely linked to the ongoing protests in France challenging pension reforms.

Result: False
