Fact
Viral video was taken during the filming of a 2022 Bhojpuri movie.
A video has gone viral on Facebook with the claim that it shows a reporter being kidnapped in broad daylight in Dimapur, Nagaland.
Fact Check
Newschecker noticed that the video seemed staged, considering the reactions of the nearby traffic policeman and that the whole incident happened on a busy street without the intervention of passers-by, raising our doubts.
We then ran a keyword search for “reporter Dimapur kidnap”, which did not throw up any credible news reports.
While scanning the comments of the post, a user pointed out that the video was taken during the filming of a scene from a 2022 Bhojpuri film, titled “Hum Hai Rowdy SP Vijay”, sharing a Youtube video of it. Newschecker learnt that the film was directed by Dimapur-based actor and filmmaker Munna Yadav, which was released by Yashi Films on August 28, 2022. The movie was partially shot in Dimapur, featuring a number of local artistes.
We can see a kidnapping scene from the 08:33 mark of the video, similar to the viral video.
A comparison of screenshots of the viral video (right) and the film, especially the “reporter’s” attire, microphone, the “cameraman”, the Maruti Omni van, the car behind it, confirm that the viral clip was from the making of the Bhojpuri film.
We have reached out to Yashi Films and will update this article once we receive a response.
