Screenshot Of BBC Report On Rahul Gandhi Voted Most Trustworthy Leader Is Fake

Online users shared a screenshot of an alleged BBC report with a headline that reads, “Rahul Gandhi voted 3rd most trustworthy political leader in the world – poll.”  

In the screenshot, the paragraph below Gandhi’s photograph reads, “An opinion poll conducted by WIN/Gallup international has rated Rahul Gandhi as the 3rd most “trustworthy” political leader after US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi shares the 69th position in the poll ratings with Chinese President Xi Jinping.”

One such user’s tweet with this screenshot reads, “”Rahul Gandhi — the most trustworthy political leader in the world.” Do feel proud to be a part of the @INCIndia My #Rahul_THE_Leader”

This claim was shared by twitter users in 2016 and 2017

In 2017, Haryana Youth Congress shared this claim with a caption, “#RGEmpoweringYouth Rahul gandhi was voted as 3rd most trustworthy political leader in the world.”

Fact Check / Verification

We did a keyword search with the headline, “Rahul Gandhi voted 3rd most trustworthy political leader in the world – poll,” but it did not result in any such article published by BBC. 

We then did a keyword search of other article headlines seen in the claim’s screenshot. A keyword search of the headline “Neglect and abuse: The lost boy and Japan’s parenting debate” led to a June 2016 article published by the BBC. Similarly, a keyword search of the other article’s headline led to another June 2016 BBC article

Newschecker reached out to the BBC Press Office who confirmed that the screenshot of the alleged BBC report on Rahul Gandhi voted most trustworthy leader is fake. A comment from their spokesperson reads, “We can confirm that this claim is fake and has nothing at all to do with BBC News.  We urge audiences to verify stories on the BBC News website.”

Please note that The Worldwide Independent Network/Gallup International Association was international cooperation that carried out independent market research and polls. 

Even on the Gallup International website, we could not find any report which ranked Rahul Gandhi as the 3rd most trustworthy political leader in the world.

Conclusion

The screenshot of an alleged BBC report with the headline, “Rahul Gandhi voted 3rd most trustworthy political leader in the world – poll,” is fake. BBC News did not publish such an article.
