A video that shows a bloodied woman lying dead on a chair claiming that the woman lying on the chair is the minor girl who was gang-raped in Rajasthan’s Tonk. Along with it, a video of a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukhbir Singh is being circulated who can be seen condemning the incident.

The text of the viral video reads, “Four Muslims gang-raped 15-year-old Hindu girl after kidnapping her from her house (Tonk, Rajasthan). See her condition and the blood flowing on the floor. Police is pressurising the victim’s family”.

We discovered that the video was also being shared on Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. One of our readers also sent the viral video to Newschecker’s helpline number for verification.

Fact Check:

With the help of relevant keywords, we found several media reports about a minor girl being gang-raped by four men on Tuesday, ie. May 5 in Rajasthan’s Tonk district.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, four-man named Nisar Khan, Salman, Zakir, and one minor were arrested on Wednesday on charges of gang-raping a 16-year-old minor. The minor was gang-raped in an isolated field near her house, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pachewar police station, on Tuesday evening, said Goverdhan Lal, additional superintendent of police, Tonk.

The rape survivor’s family members lodged a police complaint, where they named the four accused for kidnapping and sexually assaulting her.The accused took her to an isolated place and took turns to sexually assault her, before dropping her near a pond in Bacheda village on Wednesday morning, the complaint alleged.

The rape survivor, who was lying at that spot in an unconscious condition, gradually regained her consciousness and managed to reach her home. She shared her ordeal with her parents, who then filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Pachewar police station.

Meanwhile, Tonk Police on their Twitter handle also requested the people not to trust rumors regarding the case. They also said that strict action would be taken against those spreading misinformation on social media. Tonk Police also uploaded a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) of the case on their handle.

Now, we started fact-checking the viral image, which is being used along with the claim on social media. With the help of ‘InVid,’ we got multiple keyframes of the video. By using a reverse-image search on one of the keyframes, we found a media report by Asianet News, which carried out the same image. The report published on April 16, 2020, stated that Vikram Singh, a head constable with Haryana police serving in Jind, killed his wife after a verbal spat. He allegedly attacked her with a stick and killed her on the spot.

The Tribune and Hindustan times also published the reports, mentioning that a police constable allegedly killed his wife in Hisar on April 15, 2020.

Conclusion:

It is evident from our fact check that the news of the gang rape of the minor in Tonk, Rajasthan is true. However, an unrelated image is being used along with the posts on social media.
