New Delhi: Just months away from UP election, Pakistan Founder MA Jinnah has found his way into the political discourse, thanks to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. A calculated move or a spur-of-the-moment tongue slip, Akhilesh Yadav’s video where he is heard saying ‘Jinnah Got Us Azadi’ is being widely shared on social media. But Newschecker found that this video was shared without the context leaving ample room for misunderstanding.
Senior Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Kanchan Gupta and Arun Pudur, businessman and pro-right commentator on social media also shared the same video.
While Kanchan Gupta wrote “Jinnah Got us Azadi- Akhilesh Yadav. What kind of pandering is this?”, Pudur wrote “Jinnah ne Azadi Dilayi- Akhilesh Yadav. This one reason is enough to ensure he & his party which killed Ram sevaks are made to lose deposit the coming elections.”
Gupta’s tweet has seen over 3.9k retweets and over 9.1k likes, while Pudur’s tweet has received close to 120 retweets and over 220 likes.
Several others also shared the same video with similar claims.
On listening to Akhilesh Yadav’s full speech on YouTube, it was revealed that he was speaking at a rally in Hardoi on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s ‘Iron Man’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
At 9:49 minutes into the video, he says, “Saradar Vallabhai Patel took decisions keeping a hold on the land. He understood the land before taking decisions, earning him the name ‘Iron Man’. Sardar Patel, father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Jinnah, all studied in the same institute to become barristers. They studied in the same institution. They became barristers and fought for the freedom of the country. They did not step back from any challenges. If anyone placed curbs on ‘a particular ideology’ (referring to RSS) it was Sardar Patel.”
Both Gupta and Pudur have shared the video out of context, beginning only from the portion where Akhilesh Yadav refers to Jinnah, hence missing the context.
The viral video of Akhilesh Yadav saying ‘Jinnah Got Us Azadi’ has been tweeted out without context.
