Fact

A Google keyword search for “Uddhav Thackeray,” “1992 riots,’ “Muslims” and “apologise” did not yield any credible report indicating that the former Maharashtra leader has made any such statement.

On carefully analysing the alleged news clipping, we noticed that it was attributed to one ‘Pranav Dogra’ of  “राष्ट्रीय उजाला” (Rashtriya Ujala) publication.

Taking a clue, we looked up the keyword “राष्ट्रीय उजाला” on Google which led us to a website by the same name. We skimmed through the website but did not find any such news article.

However, we did find a disclaimer calling out the “false and malicious news” about Thackeray “being wrongly attributed to Rashtriya Ujala.” “We would like to clarify that our publication has no connection with this fabricated information,” it added.

We also came across a Facebook post by @dainkrashtriyaujala, dated November 19, 2024, about the “fake news clippings” being circulated under the name of  Rashtriya Ujala newspaper. “It is clarified that reporters Pranav Dogra and Ankit Pathak have no connection with our newspaper,” it added.

Newschecker could not independently verify whether such a meeting took place or not. However, the publication has clarified that the viral news clipping is fake.

Hence, the viral news clipping stating that Uddhav Thackeray apologised to the Muslim leaders over 1992 riots was found to be fabricated.

Result: False
