Viral Posts Falsely Claim ‘Jai Shri Ram’ Chants During Disengagement At India-China Border

Indian-Chinese soldiers began disengagement at Depsang and Demchok with chants of “Jai Shri Ram”

Fact

A keyword search for “India,” “china” and “disengagement” on Google led us to  a report by Economic Times, dated October 25, 2024, stating that the troops on both sides of the border have started disengaging  at Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh.

“As per the agreements between the two sides, the Indian troops have started pulling back equipment to rear locations in the respective areas, said defence officials,” the report stated.

We then looked up the keyframes of the viral video on  Google lens which led us to an X post by @chatterjeea330, dated January 22, 2024. It carried the same video purportedly showing the Indian and Chinese troops chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”

We also found a YouTube video by @theaffairsinternational2108 from January, 2024 carrying the viral clip.

Carrying the same video, a report by Hindustan Times, dated January 23, 2024, “an undated video showing Chinese soldiers – along with Indian troops – chanting Hindu slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’ purportedly at Line of Actual Control has gone viral. The video – whose authenticity is not verified – emerged on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly-built Ram Temple in Ayodhya. So far, neither the Indian Army nor Chinese military reacted to the viral video.”

Multiple other social media users, such as this, this and this, had shared the video in January 2024.


Newschecker was not independently able to verify the authenticity of the video. However, it does not show the visuals from the recent disengagement at the India-China border.
