Claim
A rap song by the teenager involved in the Pune Porsche crash case, bragging about how he got away with the accident.

Fact
Video does not feature accused teenager, but a content creator.

Several social media users are circulating a rap video, stating that it shows the 17-year-old boy, who allegedly ran over two Pune techies with his Porsche car, mocking their deaths and bragging about how he got away with the accident.

The teenager has said his driver was behind the wheel when the speeding Porsche car crashed into the motorbike at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction around 2.30am on May 19. The minor’s two friends, who were with him at the time of the accident, have also backed his version.  The family driver in an earlier statement had claimed that he was driving the Porsche when the accident happened. Vishal Agarwal, the teen’s realtor father, has also said that it was the driver employed by him who was driving the car.

Fact Check

Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “Pune Porsche rap teenager”, which led us to multiple news reports, seen here, here and here, about the viral video, stating that it did not feature the accused teenager, but a content creator.

“But the man in the video is not the minor at all. It’s a content creator called Aryan Dev Neekhra, who posts his work under the name Cringistaan on Instagram. He claims to be a “meme marketer” with a company called No Gravity Media in Delhi’s Vikas Marg Road… His LinkedIn profile says he has a ‘passion for creativity and witty personality’,” read a Newslaundry report, dated May 24, 2024. We learnt that several media outlets had misreported about the video, stating that the accused had performed the rap song.

Taking a cue from this, we found the content creator’s account on Instagram, where he goes by the name Cringistaan2, but saw that the viral video had been deleted. The creator’s Instagram stories mock the media scrutiny over his viral video, while performing another offensive rap song about the Pune car crash.

Also, the minor’s mother released a video clarifying that the person in the video is not her son. “The video which is being circulated is not of my son. That is a fake video. My son is in the detention centre,” says the teenager’s mother in her message.

“The Pune police have confirmed that the video was from a fake account and the teenager was not involved,” read a Times of India report, dated May 24, 2024. Similar reports on the Pune Police’s clarification can be seen here, here, here, here and here, with ACP Sunil Tambe of the Crime Branch debunking the false claims.
