New Delhi: Four days after vandalism of the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh’s Noakhali, a disturbing video has been found circulating online, claiming to show the brutal killing of Jatin Saha- one of the three people who died in the violent attack. The viral video shared by several users on Twitter, shows a man in a blue kurta, being brutally attacked by two men with machetes. A fact check by Newschecker has revealed this video to be from another incident in Bangladesh that took place in May 2021.

The video, posted by @kuntal28695281 has over 1.1K views and has over 60 retweets and 45 likes. The same video was also posted by other users with a similar claim.

Fact Check/Verification

On a reverse image search of the key frames of the video, Newschecker was able to locate an article titled ‘Savage Machete Attack In Bangladesh’. The same video claiming to be Jatin Saha’s brutal killing has been embedded in the article. Newschecker is deliberately withholding the name of the website as it carries disturbing content.

The article identified the man seen getting attacked as Sahinuddin, and reported the location of the incident as Pallabi Road in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. While no actual date of publishing is available, Newschecker did a keyword search based on the details available on the website, and found several articles pertaining to the incident.

You can read articles here, here and here.

The articles revealed that the incident occurred on May 16 and that the man identified as Sahinuddin, a businessman,  was reportedly murdered by “miscreants” in Dhaka’s Pallabi area over a land dispute with a former lawmaker. The reports further mention that the brutal crime took place in front of the businessman’s 7-year-old son.

Conclusion

The video that is being shared as the brutal killing of Jatin Saha in the ISKCON temple attack in Noakhali is actually a video from May. Hence the video is fake.
