Fact
A keyword search for “Mansukh Mandaviya,” “shoe” and “Gujarat” on Google led us to a video report by Times of India, dated May 29, 2017. Carrying the viral footage, the report stated that a Patidar agitation activist hurled a shoe at Mandaviya during a function in Gujarat’s Vallabhipura in Bhavnagar district.
The video was also shared on YouTube by news outlet Aaj Tak on May 30, 2017.
Detailing the incident, a Hindustan Times report dated May 28, 2017, stated, “The show, thrown by a member of Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, missed its intended target as it landed some metres from of the stage from where Mandaviya, the MoS for road transport and highways, was addressing a gathering.”

Adding, “Following the incident, the local police arrested the 20-year-old college student Bhavesh Sonani, said Vallabhipur sub-inspector P S Rizvi. “We registered an FIR against Sonani and arrested him for hurling a shoe at the minister. He has been booked under sections 353 (assaulting public servant) and 186 (obstructing public servant) under the IPC,” the report quoted.

We could conclude that a 2017 video of a Patidar agitation activist hurling a shoe at Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has been misleadingly shared as a recent incident.
