Claim

Egyptian citizens cross the Gaza border to deliver water and food to Palestinians amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Fact

Newschecker first ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this tweet by a senior Libya-based journalist, Abdulkader Assad, dated September 8, 2023, close to a month before the current Israel-Palestine conflict began on October 7, 2023. A similar tweet can be seen here.

We also came across this report by Misbar, an Arabic fact-checking platform, dated September 11, 2023, stating that they found the same video, along with other clips of citizens using similar backpacks, from June this year. According to Misbar, the users claim that the videos show Egyptian smugglers carrying goods in the Libyan region of Amsaad, near the country’s northeastern border with Egypt. Although we could not independently ascertain the context of the viral video, we can confirm that it is not linked to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict
