From misinformation around the ongoing farmers’ protest to the Manipur crisis, social media platforms were abuzz with multiple misleading content this week. While an old video from Punjab was falsely linked to the Delhi Chalo protest march, a set of two images from Brazil were shared to show massive deforestation in Manipur since the arrival of kukis. A video of an art performance was shared out of context to show an ISIS member selling Yazidi women in Iraq & Syria, and digitally altered images of actress Anushka Sharma with her newborn son went viral. Farmers’ Protest: Cops Attacked With Swords By Farmers? No, Month-Old-Video Viral With False Claims

A video showing a mob of turban clad men, clashing with police officers, and vandalising a car is being widely shared on social media platforms. In the fifteen-second-long-video, a sword wielding man can also be seen repeatedly attacking the cops. Multiple social media users who shared the video have linked it to the ongoing farmers’ protest. A video showing several burqa-clad women chained together standing motionless in a crowded place, while an elderly man lifts their veil one-after- another, seemingly inspecting them, is going viral online. Those sharing the clip claim that it shows ISIS selling Yazidi “women and girls in slavery markets in Iraq and Syria!” Newschecker found that the video does not show an actual incident, but an art performance and has been shared out of context.
