Claim
Rohit Sharma is locked in a room after the world cup final defeat against Australia and he is almost positive, says Rohit Sharma’s daughter.

Fact
The viral video is a year old. And has nothing to do with India’s loss in World Cup Cricket 2023.

Numerous unconfirmed videos are circulating online following India’s defeat to Australia in the World Cup 2023 finals. One particular video showcases Rohit Sharma’s daughter, Samaira, responding to unidentified individuals, possibly reporters, where she can be heard saying that her father is in his room, and that he is ‘almost positive’ and will be laughing again in a month.

This clip has gone viral, with some social media users sharing it alongside hashtags related to the World Cup 2023. Some of such posts can be seen here, here and here.

The video has been shared by numerous Facebook users with the same claim. Some of such posts can be seen here, here and here.

Fact Check / Verification

We used the InVid Tool to extract screengrabs and conducted Google reverse image searches on a few of them which took us to several reports varying the same video. One such report, dated June 28, 2022, by E Nava Bharat carried the viral video of Rohit Sharma’s daughter. The report states, “Rohit Sharma’s daughter, Samaira, has provided an update on her father’s health amid his battle with Covid-19, just four days before the scheduled start of the fifth Test match on July 1. Concerns arose when Sharma tested positive for Covid-19, raising questions about whether the Indian captain would recover in time for the Edgbaston Test against England. A video circulating on social media features Rohit’s daughter sharing information about her father’s health. In the video, she mentions that her father is currently resting in his room as he is still testing positive for Covid-19.”

Another report published on June 28, 2022, also corroborates the information. The report from Fresh Headline, discussing the same details can be read here.

Additionally, the viral video has been circulating on X (formerly Twitter), since June 27, 2022. The posts can be here, here, and here.

Thus, the viral video featuring Rohit Sharma’s daughter Samaira is not recent and does not pertain to the aftermath of the World Cup 2023. Instead, it was originally uploaded on the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) YouTube channel in June 2022.

Conclusion

It is found that the video of Rohit Sharma’s daughter Samaira is old and unrelated to India’s defeat in the World Cup 2023.

Result: False
