Claim

Aam Aadmi Party Social Media and IT strategist Ankit Lal shared an opinion poll conducted by Republic TV in collaboration with Jan Ki Baat estimating AAP’s landslide victory in upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

Verification

With the Delhi assembly elections round the corner, social media, as usual, is buzzing with surveys, opinion polls, and several videos.

We found that an opinion poll predicting a huge victory for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections is going viral on social media. The poll has been attributed to the media house Republic TV and Jan Ki Baat (An agency) which gives an estimation that the Aam Aadmi Party would win as many as 65 seats in the elections.

The image shows graphical data that points towards AAP’s huge win in Delhi assembly elections which are scheduled for February 8, 2020. The counting of the votes will be done on February 11, 2020. We found that several Twitter users have shared the same pre-poll survey on their respective handles.

Notably, Aam Aadmi Party’s Social Media and IT strategist Ankit Lal also shared the viral image of the opinion poll on his official Twitter handle. Ankit Lal tweeted, “Come on Arnab Goswami. I still won’t watch Republic TV”

As we began fact-checking the claim, we looked for this survey on the Republic TV’s website but did not find any story or survey done by the media house.

During our search, we found a tweet by CEO and Chief Editor of Jan Ki Baat Pradeep Bhandari who immediately shot down this post, tweeting, “Fake Post of Opinion Poll in the name of Jan Ki Baat is being circulated. It’s a malicious and fraudulent attempt. Jan Ki Baat isn’t doing any opinion poll and will do only exit poll on 8th Feb as per EC guidelines.”

Conclusion

After fact-checking the claim, we reached the conclusion that the opinion poll shared by AAP’s Social Media and IT strategist Ankit Lal and many others is false as CEO and Chief Editor of Jan Ki Baat Pradeep Bhandari on Twitter has called it ‘fake’.
