On December 19, several users on Facebook shared an image of Sanjay Jha, Spokesperson of Indian National Congress (INC), wearing a skull cap. Sanjay Jha is also President of the All India Professionals Congress, Maharashtra. The viral image has been posted on Facebook and other social media platforms with the text, “कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता संजय झा ने इस्लाम धर्म अपनाया ( Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha adopted Islam).

As we began fact-checking the viral claim, we found that same image was shared by Sanjay Jha on his official Twitter account.On his official Twitter account, Sanjay Jha can be seen wearing skull cap. He changed his profile picture on December 19, 2019 . After which, several claims on social media per se Sanjay Jha are getting viral.

During our fact check regarding the viral claim, we found a report of News 18 India. While talking to News 18 India, Sanjay Jha said, “I did it intentionally as this country is of Mahatma Gandhi and no one can destroy the secularism of the country in the name of religion”. He added that, “Petty politics is being played in the name of religion and it is high time to show Brotherhood and unity among each other”
