Ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka H. D. Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy on 17th April got married. A set of images, allegedly captured at the marriage ceremony, is going viral on social media. In one of the viral images, Karnataka’s Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa can be seen standing with Nikhil and HD Kumaraswamy. It is being alleged that Yediyurappa also attended the marriage ceremony.
Fact Check
When we reverse searched the viral image, we found that the image is old and was captured at the engagement ceremony of Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
An article carried by The New Indian Express reports that H. D. Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy on 10th February 2020 got engaged to Congress Leader M. Krishnappa’s grand-niece Revathi.
A video of the engagement ceremony tweeted by The New Indian Express can be viewed below.
We also found a tweet dated 10th February and made by a user who claims to be a journalist. The viral image can be seen in the tweet below.
Many such claims can be found in replies to a tweet made by ABP News journalist Dibang, while he has mentioned that the CM was present at the engagement ceremony of H. D. Kumaraswamy’s son, it is unclear why he used B. S. Yediyurappa’s image along with Nikhil’s marriage ceremony.
Here are a few replies to his tweet where users have alleged that Karnataka’s CM BS Yediyurappa was himself present at the marriage ceremony.
Dibang, even after getting so many ‘Misleading’ replies did not bother to clarify any of the replies or post a clarification in a new tweet.
However, it is evident in our fact-check that the viral image is old and has nothing to do with the lockdown hence the claim that B. S. Yediyurappa violated the lockdown by attending the marriage ceremony of H. D. Kumaraswamy’s son is ‘Misleading’.
