Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this Youtube video, uploaded by Dweepdiary Lakshadweep, dated August 26, 2017, stating that huge waves attacked Minicoy Island Eastern Jetty on August 23, 2017. A similar Youtube video can be seen here.

A comparison of screenshots confirms that the viral video is of the same weather event.

We learnt that Minicoy is the southernmost island of Lakshadweep. A few user images attached to the location of Eastern Jetty, Minicoy Island, on Google Maps indicate it is the same spot as seen in the video. We learnt that the viral video had been circulated earlier with other false claims, linking it to Cyclone Tauktae, Cyclone Ochi, Cyclone Yaas and an adverse-weather event in Malaysia
