Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif admits defeat in war against India.
No such remarks by Sharif so far. Video found to be manipulated using AI.
A video allegedly showing Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif admitting his country’s defeat in the recent conflict with India has gone viral online. In the clip, Sharif is purportedly heard saying that Pakistan is stepping back from the war due to “lack of international support and enemy’s power,” adding that India might soon be able to establish control over them.
The footage, spanning over a minute, is being widely shared across social media platforms. Newschecker, however, found that the video has been manipulated using AI.

A search for the key phrase “Shehbaz Sharif admits defeat” on Google did not yield any credible reports carrying such a statement by the Pakistani Prime Minister.
We then skimmed through the official social media handles of Sharif which too did not feature any such remarks by him. However, we found a video of Sharif’s address to the Pakistan’s National Assembly live streamed on May 7, 2025.
The video showcased him in the same attire and identical background seen in the viral clip. However, Sharif is not heard admitting defeat in the clip, rather he details Pakistan’s alleged counter attack on India’s Operation Sindoor.
On carefully analysing the viral clip, we noticed that the lower jaw area appears to be blurred. Additionally, the initial segment of the video seemed to have been repeated.
We then checked a segment of the viral video on AI detection platform Hive Moderation which found a 99.9% likelihood of the media containing AI generated or deepfake content.
Newschecker also ran the audio on Deepfake-O-Meter of the UB Media Forensics Lab. It checked the same on multiple detection models, most of which concluded a high probability of it being AI generated.
ElevenLabs, a voice AI research and deployment company, concluded that there was a 98% probability that the audio was generated using its platform.
