Claim
President Murmu accompanied PM Modi to file his nomination.

Fact
2022 image from Droupadi Murmu’s nomination for the Presidential elections.

A photograph of President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President JP Nadda has surfaced online amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Polls. In the image, PM Modi is seen handing over a bundle of papers to a person seated across the table. Multiple social media users shared the image to claim that President Murmu accompanied PM Modi to file his nomination for the General Elections. Newschecker found the claim to be untrue.

Multiple Facebook users shared the image with the caption, “While the election nomination of Shri Narendra Modi, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s presence is a gross violation of the Election Code of Conduct. She too has brought a disgrace to her position. The Election Commission of India must take an appropriate action in the matter.”(sic) Others shared a screenshot of an X post making the same claim.

A keyword search for “Narendra Modi,” “nomination” and “Lok Sabha Polls” did not yield any credible reports suggesting that the Prime Minister has filed his candidacy for the 2024 General Elections.

Multiple reports, however, stated that PM Narendra Modi will file his nomination papers from Varanasi constituency on May 14.
