Claim
A mob vandalises a bus amid the communal violence in Nuh.

Fact
Video dates back to 2019, when a protest against mob lynchings in Surat, Gujarat turned violent.

A video, purportedly showing a mob of Muslims vandalising a bus, has gone viral on social media with the claim that it happened in Haryana’s Nuh, where communal clashes have killed six people and left several injured since the violence broke out on Monday before spreading to neighbouring areas.  We received this ticket on our Whatsapp tipline (9999499044), too, requesting it to be fact-checked.

Fact Check

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes of the video, which led us to this Aaj Tak report, dated July 6, 2019, stating that a protest in Surat, Gujarat, against mob lynchings turned violent, following which the protesters vandalised a Surat Transport Corporation (STC) bus. Similar news reports can be seen here, here and here, stating that the police and the protesters clashed, forcing personnel to resort to tear gas to disperse the crowd and the consequent imposition  of Section 144

We noticed that the licence plate of the bus being vandalised read “GJ-05”, which meant that the vehicle was registered at the Surat RTO.
