A video showing a man in an Australian cricket jersey chanting pro-India slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ at a stadium has gone viral on social media platforms, with users claiming it be from the recent India vs Australia ICC Champions Trophy game.
Multiple social media users shared the 14-second-long footage claiming it to show an Australian fan’s reaction after his team lost the Champions Trophy semi-final match to India. Newschecker, however, found the video to be old, and unrelated to the ongoing ICC tournament.

Fact Check/Verification
A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral video led us to an article by CricTracker, dated January 20, 2021, titled ‘Australian fan chants ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ in Brisbane.’ Carrying screengrabs from the viral video, it stated that the video was recorded at the India vs Australia Test match in Brisbane (Gabba).

It also featured an X post by @ashutoshmisra70, dated January 18, 2021, carrying a longer version of the viral video. The user stated that he recorded the video at Gabba.
We also found a Facebook post by @Indiancricketstadiums, dated January 20, 2021, carrying a video showing the incident from a different angle.


The video showed the teams playing in the white uniform, further confirming that it was recorded during a Test match. We compared the visuals seen in the Facebook video by @Indiancricketstadiums with the images of the Brisbane Cricket Ground, the Gabba, on Google and found them to be the same.

The video was widely reported by multiple news outlets such as this, this and this, during the India vs Australia Test cricket match in Brisbane in January 2021, which the Indian team won.

Conclusion
Hence, viral posts alleging to show an Australian fan chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Vande Mataram’ after Australia’s loss in Champions Trophy semi-final match were found to be false.
