False. Gandhi was seen in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Bill as well.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 officially became a law after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent on April 5, 2025. The contentious Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha during early hours of April 3, after a 12-hour-long debate, with 288 members voting for it and 232 voting against.

Now, several social media users shared a video of LoP Rahul Gandhi arriving at the Parliament at night to claim that the Congress leader reached the Lok Sabha just to vote on the Bill, but did not attend the discussions on the same.

Multiple X and Facebook users alleged, “…Rahul Gandhi was not in the House since morning…But now at 10 pm, he has reached the parliament to vote against the Waqf Bill with the intention of illegally occupying your properties… (translated from Hindi)”

Fact Check/Verification

On carefully analysing the viral clip, we noticed a watermark of news agency IANS on the top right corner of the screen.

Taking a clue, we skimmed through the official X handle of IANS, and found a post from April 2, 2025 at 10:16 PM, carrying the same video. “Delhi: Congress MP and LoP Rahul Gandhi arrives in Parliament ahead of Lok Sabha voting,” its caption read.

We then investigated to find whether Gandhi was present in the Lok Sabha during the discussion or not.

A keyword search for “Waqf (Amendment) Bill” , “Lok Sabha” and “discussion” on Google. This led us to a YouTube video by Sansad TV, dated April 6, 2025, titled “Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 Full Discussion in Lok Sabha l April 2 & 3, 2025.”

We were not independently able to ascertain the time when he left the Lower House.
