Video shows massive celebrations in Bengaluru after RCB lifts its first IPL trophy.
Old visuals from Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, not related to Bengaluru’s win over Punjab in IPL Finale.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Punjab Kings on Tuesday (June 3) lifting the IPL trophy for the first time in 18 years.
As “#EeSalaCupNamade” trended online after RCB’s maiden win in IPL, a video allegedly showing a massive crowd of cricket fans taking to streets, cheering and dancing to celebrate RCB’s win in Bengaluru went viral on social media platforms.
Multiple X and Facebook users shared the 23-second-long-video claiming that it shows, “1st Celebration Scenes From Bengaluru On RCB’s Win.” Newschecker, however, found the claim to be untrue.

At least 11 people were killed and multiple others injured after a stampede broke out near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025, where thousands of cricket fans had gathered to celebrate RCB’s victory in the IPL 2025.
On skimming through the comment sections of various posts carrying the viral clip, we noticed users identifying that footage to be from Kolhapur, some even added that it shows celebrations after India’s win in the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup.
Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “Kolhapur,” “T20 win,” and “celebrations” on Google which led us to a Facebook post by @cricketstats.in, dated June 30, 2024. It featured the same footage to show the “craze in Kolhapur” after India won the T20 World Cup.
Similarly an X post by @omii_msdians7, dated June 30, 2024, also carried the now viral clip, and stated, “India’s winning T20 WC celebration in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.”
We also found a YouTube video from June 2024 showing similar visuals of a crowd waving Indian and saffron flags on streets after India defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. Though it appeared to be from a different location, we spotted “Gandhar” written on one of the hoardings.
We then looked up the same on Google Maps, skimmed through nearby streets and were able to spot the exact location seen in the viral clip in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur.
