Several social media users shared a 30-second-long video claiming to show the celebrations of the recently concluded Hindu festival of Holi in China. The video shows fire crackers, laid down on a street, emitting multi-coloured smoke.
The video is being widely circulated on X and Facebook with a text-overlay alleging, “Indians celebrating Holi in China.”

Fact Check/Verification
A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to an Instagram post by @beautyandfunplus, dated February 17, 2025. Carrying the same video, it stated, “The sixteenth day of the lunar month celebration Massive fireworks in China”

The search also yielded an X post by @Deb_livnletliv, dated March 13, 2025, carrying a screengrab from a video featuring similar visuals, and identifying it to be from a Lantern Festival in China’s Chaoshan.
We also found a Facebook post by @TheJRECompanion from February 2025 carrying the same video to show the Lantern Festival in China.
Another Facebook post by China-based Chen Mingkun (translated from Chinese via Google), dated February 13, 2025, featured a similar video of celebratory fireworks with the caption, “Chaoshan Old Street is bustling during the Lantern Festival. (translated from Chinese via Google)”

On comparing the keyframes of the viral video with those of the Facebook video by user Chen Mingkun, we could conclude that they were from the same location.

Chinese New year, also called Spring Festival in China, marks the beginning of the Spring season.The Chinese Lantern Festival marks the final day of these celebrations.
Multiple outlets such as this, this and this reported on celebrations for the Lantern Festival in China on February 12, 2025.
We were independently not able to confirm when the video was shot. However, it predates the Holi celebrations of March 14, 2025.

Conclusion
Hence, viral posts claiming to show Holi celebrations in China were found to be false.
