A keyword search for “Army” and “Shopian” on Google yielded multiple reports from the past 24 hours stating that the Indian security forces eliminated three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday (May 13).
In an X post, dated May 13, 2025, the Indian Army stated, “OPERATION KELLER. On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in progress.“
We then looked up the viral image on Google Lens which led us to a Facebook post by @BasantgarhUdhampurJammuKashmir, dated September 11, 2024. The post featured the same photo in connection with an encounter in the Basantgarh forest area of Udhampur.
Carrying the now viral image, a report by Dainik Bhaskar from September 2024 also carried the same information.
A report by Republic Bharat, dated September 11, 2024, on the Udhampur encounter too featured the viral photo.
Multiple other outlets, such as this, this and this, also reported on the Udhampur encounter in September 2024.

Hence, we find that an old image has been falsely shared to show the terrorists gunned down in Operation Keller.
